School History

Hereford Center for Accelerated Learning is located at 241 Ave. H in Hereford.  This building was originally the home of Shirley Elementary School, founded in 1949 and named after Hereford pioneer T.E. Shirley, who moved to Hereford in 1906. Mr. Shirley was an avid proponent of education, and was said to have mortgaged his property when the local college was in danger of being closed.

Before becoming HCAL in 2014, this building also housed the Hereford Branch of Amarillo College and classrooms for the Texas Migrant Council.
